Womens felt clogs with many benefits
As fall and winter approaches, it is important to stay warm. Your feet especially need some extra warmth as the cold gets more intense in order for you to stay healthy. For women in particular, having cold feet or walking on cold surfaces without some kind of protection against the cold can lead to numerous ailments and discomfort. Investing in footwear to help keep your feet warm is not only a question of feeling comfortable, it is also about protecting your health.
The sole is important too
With glerups felt clogs for women, not only do you get footwear that keeps your feet warm and comfortable, you also get footwear with a sturdy sole and good support. This can be beneficial for both your posture and your feet. The feet get the support they need to distribute the weight of the body evenly and the way the shoe grips your foot gives you a better sense of balance and grounding, helping you walk more securely and giving your posture a boost. This can help prevent lower back problems and pain. It also makes this footwear ideal for people with jobs that require a lot of standing and walking, for instance when working in a shop or a restaurant.
A wool blend like no other
At glerups we have spent years developing our wool blend into what it is today. We have landed on a special blend with many natural properties that are beneficial for the wearer of the footwear. Firstly, this wool blend, which is a mix of wool from Danish Gotland sheep and wool from New Zealand, has the ability to keep your feet warm, when it’s cold, but can also help your feet stay cool on warmer days. This is due to the fibers in the wool, which absorb and distribute heat and also excess moisture from your feet. If you suffer from foot odor, the wool also absorbs that. Both moisture and odor is released, when the clogs have a rest, ideally somewhere with fresh air. This leads us to the fact that wool is a robust material and footwear from glerups is generally longer lasting than ordinary footwear, provided that it is well taken care of. For more information on how to do this, follow the easy instructions for maintenance found here.
Another benefit of this material is that the molecular structure of the fibers in the wool are akin to that of human skin, meaning that it will not irritate your skin while you wear them, even if it is for extended periods of time.
Danish design in a nutshell
In Denmark, there is a long lasting design tradition of making things out of easily accessible materials that are made to last and inspired by nature. There is a philosophy stating that what is made must be simple, functional and elegant. We feel that glerups fits perfectly with this way of thinking. Our seamless design of the clogs without any extra accessories and pure expression makes our clogs simple. They are functional as they can be used all year round due to the properties of the wool and how you can wear them to almost any occasion. Their elegance is found in the design and the neutral colors, which makes them fit easily into any wardrobe or style.
Once upon a time in Denmark
glerups began when founder Nanny Glerup wanted to try to learn a new skill. She took a class in felting and decided that her first product would be a pair of felted boot slippers for her husband Ove. He loved the feeling of comfort so much that soon he would wear the boots everywhere he went. This caused some attention and people started asking Nanny to make footwear for them too. Nanny and Ove decided to move to a small farm, where they could have more room, so that Nanny could get a real workshop for her production and Ove purchased some sheep, so they didn’t have to rely on others to provide them with wool for the footwear. Nanny started going to fairs and conferences with other craft makers and people started noticing the softness and comfort of her footwear.
Soon, orders were coming in from all around the country and Nanny tried her best to keep up. But when a company in Sweden placed an order for 200 pairs of boots for kids, she regrettably had to turn it down, as she simply did not have the capacity to make the order, even though she wanted to. This became the start of glerups as we know it today.
glerups is now a multi international company with people wearing our footwear all over the world. We now sell slippers, clogs, slipper boots and our newest addition, the Langdal, a sneaker resembling shoe with laces, and all of the comfort and quality that makes glerups stand out from other brands of footwear.
